It is my sad duty to report that General Magnus André De Merindol Malan died on Monday morning... “General Magnus Malan died peacefully early this morning at home. He leaves his wife of 49-years behind as well as three children and nine grandchildren,” his family said in a statement. It was not clear how he died. Luso was very definately under the 1SSB control as the first guys in under Cpt Rindell and Lt van Jaarsveldt. Lt. v Jarsveldt call sign Blue Sky, leader of troup 4 was always the leading car, his driver was my mate, Gordon Morrow and I forget who the gunner was. I was driver of a 90mm Eland in one of the other troups (4 troups of 4cars), but had an idiot of a TL straight out of School of Armour who eventually went "bossies" and was sent home from Luso, after getting our car blown by an APM!! We had no 60mm elands in the troup. Our logistic deployment was troop train from Bloemfontein to Grootfontein, and C160 Hercules from to a venue in Angola, forget the name, train from there for about another 300km, then road to Luso. From Luso we regular Recces further North before horrendous pull back to Ruanda. Some of this may be a bit etchy but for the most part factual. I can fill in the missing pieces after talking to some of the other guys.
