I really saw some really old kit  being used by the SADF during my time, our first issue of webbing was WWII issue, our bom verbande was stamped " Union of South Afrca - 1941. During Operation Savannah my unit was issued with WWII vintage 3" mortars, and Sten guns, the mortar bombs gave off black smoke when they exploded, the Soviet ones greyish- white, making it easy for the Cubans and MPLA  as well as our observers to plot our fire, however after we captured some Soviet 82mm mortars and ammunition, we only used the 3" when we had to

We have just finished off the first metal 1/110 scale Ratel 20s. For a model that is only a mere 6.5cm long, they sure look great! The interesting thing is that the Ratel is actually both higher and longer than a German Tiger tank in the same scale... something none of us realized before. The Tiger is only wider. I had to check my specifications on both vehicles as I could NOT believe it at first, but both my 1/72 AND my 1/110 Ratels are bigger than the Tiger in the same scale! I will take some photos comparing the two vehicles a bit later...
